Our community of friends and family is filled with a lot of love. Our school is around the corner and our principal was adopted, so she has created a huge adoptive family community with special groups for families and a lot of other children who were also adopted. Our school is also very socially conscious and has a strong civil rights and social justice curriculum and other great programs like environmental preservation. There is an organic vegetable farm (with hens that lay eggs our kids can gather) in the school yard. Our kids play in our yards together, ride bikes, go to the many playgrounds, and we are five minutes from a huge park full of hiking trails and nature.
We have close friends who also adopted children and many other families we are close with who have infants and young children. We love to all get together for picnics and barbecues in our yard or the park.
We are also spiritual but not overly religious and belong to a church community that focuses on social justice issues. There, we are able to bring the kids to volunteer in a soup kitchen and we partner with other communities in need, such as a church in Puerto Rico that our community helped to rebuild after the devastating hurricanes there a couple of years ago.
